Exciting New Sponsors Join the Plate to Page Team

As winter melts gently into spring so do the months drop away and our first From Plate to Page workshop quickly approaches. Like a great play in the making, one that will dazzle the critics and bring the audience to their feet in wild applause, the magic can only happen when all the work behind stage is done, lines learned, costumes stitched, scenery painted, lighting adjusted, and only then can the curtain rise on opening night. Those working hard behind the scenes, taking care that each last detail is meticulously seen to and perfected, are valued partners making everything that the spectator sees and experiences possible. And the final outcome, the spectacle itself, is only as good as the work of those who have created the magic itself.

This week we are proud to announce three new sponsors whose generosity will make the From Plate to Page workshop even better! We are very excited to welcome Prokit, Hotel Chocolat and Prop Stylist Paula Walters into the Plate to Page family! Thanks to these, our newest sponsors, we have goodies, gifts and prizes to get excited about!

Prokit is a UK-based company specialising in camera, lighting, video production and sound equipment; years of specialist knowledge and experience allows Prokit to advise upon and supply a large selection of leading brands. Prokit is also the largest European distributor of Lowel Ego lights, holding a comprehensive stock of the entire range.
Paula Walters is a professional prop stylist and draws on more than 20 years experience styling and producing for many of Chicago's most successful food and product photographers. Paula has offered to supply the From Plate to Page workshop with an exciting selection of vintage props which will be available to our attendees to work with during all photo shoots. These gorgeous props will enable us to get creative and inspire us with new ideas on how to mix vintage with contemporary in our styling.
Hotel Chocolat, Cocoa Grower & Chocolatier, is a British-owned phenomenon brazenly committed to real, authentic chocolate, and as devoted to re-establishing the reputation of British chocolate as ever. Using exceptional ingredients and plenty of passion, the folks at Hotel Chocolat create only the most delicious, adventurous, exciting chocolates out there! And you don’t have to find your way to one of their 60+ shops around the world to enjoy these luxury chocolates, just find your pleasure on their on-line shop!

Prokit has very generously sponsored two Lowel Ego Light systems to From Plate to Page to be offered as prizes to two lucky workshop participants and we couldn’t be more excited!

We are thrilled to announce that Hotel Chocolat will be adding an incredible, surprising gift box to each Plate to Page goodie bag!

Registrations Close for Italy Workshop and an Exciting Competition

It’s always possible to look at every event in life in 2 ways - a positive and a negative.  Glass half full or glass half empty.  Dark clouds obscuring the sun,  or providing delicious shade on a hot day.  An old relationship ending but a new one beginning.  Continuing in this vein, we are both happy and sad to be able to announce that we have now closed registrations for our October 2011 Plate to Page workshop.  Happy because we are overwhelmed by the support that this event is enjoying; but also sad because it means having to disappoint many of the dozens of people who placed their names on the waiting list.  We took a decision at the start to keep these workshops small and intimate, so as to ensure that we could make them interactive and give each participant as much individual attention as possible - and we still believe that this is the way forward.  We will shortly be contacting the first few people on the waiting list for the Italian workshop (taking place from 28-30 October 2011) to offer them places, and to introduce them to our fabulous venue, Il Salicone in Tuscany.  And as soon as the Weimar workshop is done and dusted, we will hope to announce the venue of our first 2012 workshop - stay tuned.
But even if you have missed out on a place at the October workshop, we do have some good news for you regarding the Weimar workshop taking place in May!  Are you an Irish food blogger?  If so, there appears to be some truth in the old adage about the luck of the Irish.  You see, our wonderful sponsors Bord Bia (the Irish Food Board) have teamed up with the Irish Food Blogger Association to offer two lucky Irish food bloggers the chance to win places at  this exclusive sold-out workshop.
It may surprise you to learn that Ireland is the largest exporter of beef in the Northern Hemisphere and to celebrate this, the Irish Food Bloggers Association have designed the competition around Irish beef.  In brief, they are asking Irish residents aged 18 and over who have an active blog to pose their best Irish beef recipes to their blog between 1 and 31 March.  Once contestants submit the post link via e-mail to, the posts will be evaluated and judged.  The top four bloggers will go through to the next round: a competitive cook-off of your beef recipe at the Cooks Academy in Dublin’s city centre at 6.30pm on Thursday, 14 April. And on the night, two winners will be picked to represent Ireland at the the Plate to Page workshop in Weimar on 20-23 May.  This fabulous prize includes flights, airport transfers, accommodation and meals - plus of course the almost undivided attention of our four instructors Ilva, Jamie, Meeta and Jeanne for the course of the weekend.
Best of luck to all contestants and we can’t wait to meet the lucky winners in Weimar!
